1 — Unbox & Inspect
Open the package and make sure the tamper-evident seal is intact. Your Trezor should arrive in sealed packaging with a holographic sticker; if anything looks altered, contact the seller or Trezor support before proceeding. Place the device on a clean surface and have a pen and the recovery card ready — you'll need them shortly.
2 — Connect and Open Trezor Suite
Use the included USB cable to connect the Trezor to your computer. Visit the official Trezor website and download Trezor Suite (desktop app recommended). Always download from the official source to avoid counterfeit or malicious installers. Launch the app and follow the on-screen prompts to begin device initialization.
3 — Install Firmware
If your device requires firmware, Trezor Suite will detect it and guide you through a safe firmware installation. This step updates the device with the latest security fixes and features. Do not disconnect the device while the firmware installs; wait for the success message. Firmware upgrades are normal and keep your wallet secure.
4 — Create a New Wallet
Choose Create new wallet in Trezor Suite. You will be prompted to create a PIN for device access. Pick a PIN you can remember but that others won’t guess — avoid birthdays or common sequences. The PIN is required every time you connect your Trezor to sign transactions.
5 — Write Down Your Recovery Seed
The device will display a 12-, 18-, or 24-word recovery seed. Write each word on the provided recovery card in order and double-check spelling. This seed is the ultimate backup of your funds — if the device is lost or damaged, the recovery seed restores access. Store it offline, in a secure, fireproof, and waterproof place. Never take a photo of your seed or store it digitally.
6 — Confirm the Seed
After writing the seed, Trezor will ask you to confirm a few words to ensure you copied them correctly. Follow the prompts carefully. This verification reduces the chance of mistakes and prevents future loss of access to your crypto.
7 — Add Coins and Accounts
In Trezor Suite, add accounts for the cryptocurrencies you want to use — Bitcoin, Ethereum, and many others are supported. Click Add account, select the asset, and you’ll get a receiving address. Use that address to deposit funds from exchanges or other wallets. Trezor Suite will show account balances and transaction history in a clean dashboard.
8 — Send, Receive & Verify Transactions
When sending crypto, enter the recipient address and amount in Trezor Suite. The Trezor device requires you to confirm details on its screen — always verify the address and amount match what you expect before approving. This hardware confirmation ensures malware on your computer cannot silently change transaction details.
9 — Use Advanced Features
Trezor Suite supports passphrase-protected accounts, coin control, and integration with third-party services. A passphrase adds an additional word to your seed (never forget your passphrase if you use one). Explore these features only after you feel comfortable with the basics; they can increase security but also add complexity.
10 — Keep Your Device & Seed Secure
Store the device and recovery seed separately if possible. Keep firmware & app software up to date. Be cautious with phishing websites and unsolicited support messages. If you suspect any compromise, move funds to a new wallet and generate a new recovery seed on a fresh device as soon as possible.
